UAE Regulatory Context · DEWA / ADWEA

Potable Water Code Requirements — UAE

UAE potable water supply is desalinated — chemically distinct from European water systems. These unique characteristics make material compliance critical for all drinking water installations.

DZR Brass — Mandatory in UAE
DEWA and ADWEA engineers specify DZR (dezincification-resistant) Brass CW617N for all threaded valves in potable water installations. Standard brass (CW614N) is not acceptable — desalinated water with high CO₂ and low mineral content is highly aggressive to ordinary brass, causing dezincification failure within 2–3 years.
WRAS / KIWA / ACS — Required
Dubai and Abu Dhabi utility engineers require WRAS, KIWA or ACS certification for all valves that contact potable water. MT ball valves DN8–DN100 carry WRAS (UK), KIWA (Netherlands) and ACS (France) — the three certifications DEWA/ADWEA consultants most commonly reference in UAE project specs.
PN25 — Standard Pressure Rating
UAE municipal water mains operate at pressures significantly above European norms due to high-rise building requirements and pumped distribution. PN25 is the standard minimum for residential and commercial potable water ball valves throughout Dubai and Abu Dhabi, not PN16.
BSP Thread — UAE Standard
British Standard Pipe (BSP) threading is the UAE plumbing standard, inherited from British colonial infrastructure. All MT DZR brass ball valves are available in BSP (G-thread) as standard. NPT threading (American standard) is used for industrial/oil & gas applications but is not standard in UAE residential potable water.

DZR Brass — Why it matters in the UAE
Note: UAE desalinated water is highly aggressive to ordinary brass. Standard CW614N brass valves will dezincify and fail within 2–3 years. DZR brass (CW617N) is not an upgrade — it is the minimum required material.
